Sellek, Sidney Taylor (1911 census - he is listed as a boarder living with the Welsh-speaking Theophilus family at 3 Somerfield Place, Penydarren, Merthyr Tydfil. His occupation is noted as House Painter and Decorator.
1915 – he married Maragret Ann Theophilus, the daughter of Mr & Mrs Theophilus of 3 Somerfield Place, Penydarren, Merthyr Tydfil.
18 March 1916 – he is mentioned in an article in the Pioneer newspaper. The article gives an overview of the proceedings at a tribunal held in Merthyr at which over 100 conscientious objects had to present their case for exception. At the same hearing Daniel Brinley Theophilus also came before the tribunal – he was Sidney Sellek’s brother-in-law (brother of his wife).
1939 Register – he is listed as living at 42 North Street, Penydarren, Merthyr Tydfil, with his wife Margaret Ann, and their son Sydney E. Sellek.)
Autograph book containing signatures of First World War imprisoned conscientious objectors compiled by Sidney Taylor Sellek. Most of the autographs are dated between 1916 and 1918.
Sidney T. Sellek was born 1879 in Sidmouth, Devon. On the 1911 census, he is listed as a boarder living with the Welsh-speaking Theophilus family at 3 Somerfield Place, Penydarren, Merthyr Tydfil. He later married the daughter of the family, Margaret Ann Theophilus. In March 1916, he appeared before a tribunal held in Merthyr at which over 100 conscientious objectors presented their case for exception.
