Early Medieval pottery amphora
Sherd ornamented with widely spaced shallow grooves, in a fabric which has a pink-buff core and greyish-buff surface; the paste contains abundant colourless grains, perhaps of quartz. The fabric is closer to that of No. 6 (Biii) than to Class Bii, and the five sherds (all probably from one vessel) of which this is representative and therefore tabulated.

Notes: Cut XXV, Layer (5); Context C/D C: Black, usually greasy soil, with small angular rubble; much bone, charcoal flecking; rich in finds. D: Large, often slabby stones, with smaller stones interspersed; dark humus-soil; relatively few bones or finds. Excavation conducted in the promontory fort and the adjoining hill-slope enclosure.
