Glory to the dead
After studying painting in Antwerp and Munich, Ford returned to London to work as a portrait sculptor. This bronze was exhibited at the Royal Academy in the year of his death. It is the last in a series of delicate bronze statuettes of nude girls started in 1886, under the influence of Sir Alfred Gilbert. The figure's drooping pose is intensely melancholic. She holds the torch of life.
