S.S. GRANFOSS, glass negative
¾ Starboard bow view of S.S. GRANFOSS, c.1937.
S.S. GRANFOSS (1461 Grt.). Built in 1913 by Nylands Verksted, Christiania (now Oslo), as Granofos (with only one 's' ) for A/S Manchester (Thor Thoresen jr. mgr.), Christiania, for his liner service between Oslo and Manchester. In 1919 she was transferred to Skibs A/S Thor Thoresens Linje. Due to a spelling reform in Norway in 1937, the ship gained a second 's"' as last letter. In 1955, the ship was sold to the Greek shipowner N.J. Nomikos, who placed the ship as Irene under the flag of Costa Rica (homeport Puerto Limon) for his Irene cia. Mar. Ltd. On 29 November 1961 she ran aground at the Damma Damma Reef at the entrance of Port Sudan and was subsequently broken up in situ.
