Banner
Banner made in 2018 to commemorate the centenary of the Representation of the People Act 1918. The banner was made as part of PROCESSIONS – a mass participation artwork that celebrated the centenary of partial suffrage for women. 100 women artists were commissioned to work with organisations across the UK to create 100 centenary banners as part of a public programme of creative workshops. Rather than commissioning an artist, Women's Art Association Women asked its members, and various community groups, to design and make a square - all of which were stitched together to form a patchwork. The completed banner was marched through Cardiff on 10 June 2018. Simultaneous marches were also held in Belfast, Edinburgh and London.
Contributions to the banner were made by Women's Art Association Wales; Jacqueline Alkema; Jeanette Roberts; Anna Brazier; Bethan Morgan and clients of Oasis (a charity supporting refugees and asylum seekers); Bethan Morgan and Manon Pugh (for Mercury Theatre Wales); Hilary Roberts and Anna Grace (for SEEds); Dianne Setch; Zoe Gringell and Constance Leeson; Sally Hall; Dorcas Pennyfather; D. Evans MBE; Jilly Hicks; Dilys Jackson; Patricia Clifford; Judy Stephens; Claire Davies; Marged Sian Williams; Sharon McGill; Pat Adams; Jean Letton; Women's Institute; Women's Forum, Labour; Jane Salisbury (Art Central Friends, Memo Arts Centre - Barry Hookers, and Wakes Assembly of Women); Dinahvagina; Hilary Lomas; Carol Evans; Sonja Benskin Mesher; Unity; Pave the Way - Yarn 'n' Yards.
