Plate, pearlware, octagonal shape with flat base, curving sides and spreading rim, eight notches and lobes to the rim; transfer-printed in deep underglaze blue with to the centre of the well a classical sacrificial scene showing a female figure clad in flowing draperies tipping a bowl of leaves onto a pyre on top of an alter while behind her a kneeling female figure plays two pipes, to one side of the scene a jug, to the other side a spreading tree, the scene enclosed by a circular dentil border, border to the rim of alternating panels, one showing the upper bodies of two winged figures to either side of a stylized urn, the other showing a bord with wings outstretched perched amid foliate scrolls, all on a deep blue ground.
