Roman stone quern
Two fragments from an upper stone of simple rotary type . The grinding surface is well-worn and slightly concave, with the inside edge being some 25mm higher than the outside edge. The hopper does not form a regular circle, although no signs of a rynd-socket are visable. There are traces of a horizontal handle socket 70mm long and 30mm deep; the upper surface of the stone is slightly raised adjacent to this socket.
