Baxter, Thomas (junior) (1782 - 1821)
Cup, porcelain with slight whitish translucency, under the foot an intaglio portrait medallion of Thomas Baxter's father, the stepped foot rising to a stem turned in the profile of a face and supporting a plain curved bowl with slightly out-turned rim; elaborately enamelled all over: inside, a portrait of Shakespeare and a marbled white ground with Vitruvian and anthemion scroll bands, outside the bowl with scenes from Shakespeare's 'The Tempest', 'Pericles Prince of Tyre' and 'Cymbeline', the stem with a porphyry ground, the medallion underneath in puce on a dark blue ground.
