Chair
In 1866, another eisteddfod was held in Neath named Eisteddfod y Cymry or 'The Welsh Eisteddfod'. The aim was to make a stand against the Anglicization of the National Eisteddfod, although it wasn't much of a success.
This chair is different to the National Eisteddfod chairs. It's a comfortable, upholstered chair and was probably made locally for the event, from oak with acorns featured on the carving.
The name of the event and the winner, Hwfa Môn (Rowland Williams), are engraved on the silver plaques placed on the chair uprights. He won several eisteddfod chairs and crowns as well as adjudicating. He was known for his great speeches and was elected Archdruid (the head druid of the Gorsedd of the Bards) from 1895 until his death in 1905.
