Roman stone quern
Half of an upper stone. The edge moderately well dressed and varying from vertical to splayed. A recessed hopper, 7mm deep, 140mm in diameter, surrounds the pivot hole. There is a socket, with a raised lip, for a handle, the convex grinding surface is slightly worn, especially at the edge. With a coarse conglomerate base (grinding surface) with mainly vein quartz.
