Jug; barrel-shaped body, with triple hoops surrounding body in four places - two near top; two near bottom; small, pulled forward lip; C-shaped, S-ridged handle. Body of mid-brown stoneware, with dark brown rim and foot, and patch of dark brown at top of handle. Body transfer-printed in brown with a 3/4 face portrait of William Gladstone, in an oval cartouche, with inscriptions above and below, and a quotation enclosed in scrolls either side, with acorns and oak leaves behind.
