Anglo Saxon copper alloy mount
Decorative mount of 'axe blade plate' shape. It is decorated on one side with a central panel of decoration in chip-carved Salin style motif, surrounded by a wide, plain flat border, possibly silvered or tinned. There are traces of gilding on the surface of the panel.
The panel bears a design consisting of a central figure of a man facing forward with zoomorphic representations in the bottom corners (possibly birds?) and serpentine creatures (possibly 4) at the top of the axe On the reverse are three small projecting rivets, the shafts are circular in cross-section.
