Larkspurs
A painting of summer flowers, typical of the remarkable series of still lives, sold mainly on the British market, with which the artist supported himself for most of his career. Although devoted to Manet and friendly with Morisot, Renoir and Monet, Fantin-Latour exhibited regularly at the Salon and the Royal Academy from the early 1860s and denounced the first Impressionist exhibition in 1874. This work belonged to W.C. Alexander, who was a friend and patron of Whistler.
