Cliff, Clarice (1899 - 1972
Apprenticed aged 13 to local potteries, before joining A J Wilkinson Royal Staffordhsire Potteries in 1916; trained in all aspects of pottery including design and modelling; under the tutelage of factory owner Colley Shorter, attended Sculpture course at Royal College of Art; went on to become Art Director of A J Wilkinson at age 31; devised Bizarre and Fantasque ranges, inspired by Cubism.)
Plate, eathernware, round; yellow glazed plate enamelled with the 'Trees and House' pattern. The lip of the plate is white with black and orange rings surrounding the well of the plate. The well of the plate shows a colourful linear scene, different types of tree surround a small house with a green roof, just glimpsed through the foliage.
