Captain John Treasure Jones, photograph
Portrait of Captain John Treasure Jones (1905-1993) in naval uniform and holding a pair of binoculars and standing on the bridge of R.M.S. QUEEN MARY with funnels in background. He was born near Haverfordwest and went to sea as an apprentice in 1921, rising to be the Senior Captain of Cunard in 1968. From 1962 he was the final master of the R.M.S. MAURETANIA, taking her to the breakers in 1965, and from 1965 was the final master of the R.M.S. QUEEN MARY, taking her on her final voyage to Long Beach, California in 1967. He retired in 1968.
