Cup and saucer

Vienna state factory

Cup, hard-paste porcelain, standing on a rounded foot-rim, rounded curving sides; decorated in polychrome enamels with to the front of the cup a finely painted scene showing a male figure standing before a background of trees, several foliate sprigs in gilt and brown enamel to the exterior sides of the cup, around the interior lip-rim a wide border in gilt and brown enamel of a running stem bearing flowers and foliage interlacing with gilt foliate scrolls and pendant sprays of flowers and foliage, a gilt band around the foot-rim, the handle highlighted in gilt. Saucer, hard-paste porcelain, rounded foot-rim and curving sides; decorated with to the centre of the well a finely painted scene in polychrome enamels, now rather worn, showing a femal figure carrying a sack and a basket and standing before a background of trees, several foliate sprigs in gilt around the sides of the well, a border to the rim as on the cup, a gilt edge to the rim.
