Medieval silver finger ring
Twelfth century silver ring with traces of gilding. Hoop takes the form of two strands with cross moulding either side of a main square bezel inlaid with niello showing a central cross with niello dots in the diamond shaped arms and silver 'V' shapes in the corners. Two narrow rectangular panels either side of the bezel bridge the two hoop strands and are decorated with transverse grooves inlaid with niello. The two hoop strands continue down to Romanesque zoomorphic heads and the two hoop strands merge and emanate from the mouths of the heads to join at the bottom.
