Tureen, cream with cover
Tureen and cover, soft-paste porcelain, squat urn shape with domed cover with a raised flattened section at the centre, on which sits a finial in the form of a butterfly with closed wings, there is a semi-circular cut-out section on the cover's lip to accommodate a ladle, the tureen has a flattened flange to accomodate the cover and a raised, scalloped rim; the scallops continue down the upper third of the tureen's body and two rococo-style handles are affixed beneath the rim; the tureen sits on a pedestal with a flaring, stepped foot rim; the lip of the cover and the rim of the tureen are decorated with gilt dontil borders, there is a scalloped band of gilding at the interior rim and a plain band at the foot, the handles are partly gilt, the butterfly finial is gilt and the wings are highlighted with beads of white glaze; the cover and body are painted over and under the glaze with green urns holding sprays of wild flowers including herb robert, wild strawberries, forget-me-nots, bluebells, dog roses, buttercups, honeysuckle, primroses and daffodils, five detatched sprigs are arranged around the edge of the cover and the interior of the tureen.
