Early Bronze Age bronze developed flat axe

Flanged axe of narrow form and diminutive size. Butt is damaged and the axe consists of three joined fragments. The sides are slightly divergent, with marked widening and recurving of the blade. There is a median bevel present and the cast flanges are very weak. This is of Brandon type (Swinton variant) developed flat axe (Schmidt & Burgess, 1981)

Site Name: Breach Farm, Llanblethian

Collection Method: excavation

Notes: From the central burial pit of a kerbed round barrow, 250m north-west of the farm. A tanged copper alloy chisel and a small copper alloy knife in the final stages of disintegration could be seen in outline but could not be preserved.
