Patchwork piece
Unfinished patchwork panel from Llyfni Lodge, Maesteg. Made in the early 1900s from diamond-shaped pieces of different coloured silks and velvets.
Many pieces still have remains of paper templates in place (mostly hidden by the folded-over seam allowances) and one of the pink satins and one brown piece still has the whole template intact. There are some selvages visible on the reverse. Some of the velvets still have the tacking stitches in place which would have held the paper templates. The pieces are joined together with overcast stitches, predominantly using dark brown thread, but a white thread has also been used in places (both threads are 3-ply, S-twist).
