Cardiff Docks, photograph
Patent coal tipping at Cardiff Docks. Coal is being loaded into a "Collier" merchant ship by a patent method of container discharge devised to reduce breakage of the large railway coal being exported throught the World. End-discharge wagons fill the container which is then lowered into the hold and a drop bottom door prevents undue rough treatment of the coal. Using Lewis-Hunter coaling cranes and boxes.
