Roman stone inscription
Dedicatory inscription. Purbeck marble: from the cemetery south of the River Usk. The inscription records the gift of ground etc., probably for the use of a burial club. The donor was chief centurion, P(rimus) P(ilus), and the gift was made from his own resources, sine tralaticio ex arca publica, “without a contribution from the public chest”.
