Seal impression: Scottish royal
A shield, surrounded by the collar of the Thistle, with badge: as S 1. Supporters: Two unicorns chained and ducally gorged. Crest: On a helmet with mantling and ensigned with a crown, a lion sejant affrontée crowned, holding in his right paw a naked sword, and in his left paw a sceptre, both bend-wise. To either side of the lion, the motto: IN DEFENS; below which, to either side of the crown, the initials: M. R. Further to either side, and arising from the corners of the shield, two banners: dext. A lion rampant; sin. Three bars, over all a saltire. No legend.
