Excavation at Hafod foundry, photograph
Archaeological excavation at Hafod foundry, Swansea, 21 August 2015. General view of the site from the NE, taken from the top of temporary spoil tip. The main foundry building occupied the middle ground, with ancillary buildings (pattern shop, etc) being located further away. Some of the concrete machinery loadings within the foundry building appear to relate to its conversion to a lead works c.1938. Other seem to be later and to relate to the 1960s-1990s engineering works phase. North of the main foundry building (i.e. nearer the camera) are a series of concrete linear foundations from structures that appear to have been erected on the site after it ceased to be used as a lead works c.1958, and was used as an engineering works.
