Late Bronze Age bronze socketed axe

Blade end fragment of ribbed socketed axe, which has been struck with an implement near the break, as evidenced by a squashed socket base and by splaying sides. Two ribs visible on one surface, however these are located on left hand side and centre of axe surface, suggesting existence of possible further rib on right hand side, perhaps shorter in length, and therefore not visible on this blade end fragment. Axe originally had slightly divergent concave shaped sides, widening to form a cutting edge with no recurving of sides. Curtting edge moderately convex in shape. Casting mark visible down one side of blade but worked down. Base of socket evenly shaped. Cutting edge corroded, with evidence of striations along blade bevel, parallel to the blade edge, indicating sharpening. Green patina with lighter green carbonate encrustations.
