LINEN CANVAS, unbleached, embroidered with coloured wools in eyelet, cross and other stitches. In eight horizontal rows separated by narrow stripes are letters of the alphabet three times repeated. At the bottom, between two horizontal bands of floral wavy stems, is the inscription: "Sarah Thomas / aged nine years 1833 " followed by numerals to 10.
