Seal impression: Royal

Obverse. A seal not dissimilar to that of Philip and Mary. Under a baldachino with flowing curtains, the King seated dexter, the Queen sinister, his left hand and her right hand extended to touch a cross-bottony topped orb, resting upon a pedestal bearing their Latin initials, G. M. ensigned by a royal crown. The king is crowned, wearing a girdled robe and ermine mantle with the chain and badge of the Garter; the queen, in a loose dress, likewise wears the chain and badge of an order; both hold sceptres with their right and left hands respectively. To either side, a crowned lion sejant affrontée holds a lance supporting a banner displaying the cross of St George. Above the orb is an oval shield ensigned by a crown and encircled by the motto of the Garter: HONI SOIT QVI MAL Y PENSE: quarterly, 1. and 4. quarterly, i. and iv. Three fleurs-de-lis, FRANCE; ii. and iii. Three lions passant guardant in pale, ENGLAND: 2. and 3. An harp, IRELAND; an inescutcheon [arms indistinct on this impression]: billety, a lion rampant, NASSAU. Segmented border.
