Smock
Round smock-frock made by Miss Amy Marsh while attending Mrs M A Bere's smocking class at Bere Regis, Wareham, Dorset. It was made to order and cost £2.15.0.
Unbleached linen embroidered with glazed linen thread. Round collar with double Dorset button fastening at front. Two button opening at cuffs. The smocking is done in outline, double wave, single chain and cable stitching. The embroidery is done in chain, buttonhole, feather stitches and french knots. The embroidery patterns are identified in stitched words: collar Dorset Woodman, the front boxes Essex Milkmaid and Essex Carter, the back boxes Dorset Woodman and Glosterman, the shoulders Dorset and Sussex, and the pockets are Hants and Berks.
