Bute Colliery, photograph
Bute Colliery, Treherbert, about 1890. Workmen pose against the wooden headframe of the Bute Colliery, Treherbert, sunk by the Marquis of Bute's agent, W.S. Clarke, in the Upper Rhondda in 1884. This photograph, taken a few years later, shows surface craftsmen and underground officials with the winding engine on the plinth in front of his engine.
