Dresser
Dresser with clock in the centre. The whole piece is made of oak, including the clock case which has a swan-neck pediment. The clock's painted dial has the maker's name, 'Mos[es] Evans, LLANGERNIW’ and also the name and date: 'JOHN LLOYD 1797'. The piece was probably commissioned by John Lloyd (1749-1815) of Hafodunnos, Llangernyw, Denbighshire in 1797. He was a laywer and collector of books, manuscripts, maps and scientific instruments. He was MP for Flintshire from 1797-99.
Dresser-clock. The clock has an arched white enamelled dial, the dial false-plate carries the inscription 'Wilson, Birmingham'. The dial corners feature roses and poppy-like flowers; the arch painted with a dove returning with an olive branch. A separate seconds ring with hand. Inscribed 'Mos. Evans/ LLANGERNIW' and (inside chapter ring) 'JOHN LLOYD 1797', presumably the name of the man whom the dresser was made originally. Possibly Joh Lloyd of Hafodunos, Llangernyw. The oak case is the central part of the dresser, its door has a shell-ornament inlay on a central plaque. The dresser rack has 'bellied' ends that proclaim its origin in the Llanrwst area together with a row of spice drawers, including a dummy one in the clock trunk.
