Sampler
Sampler made in 1906 by M.E. Powell in memory of her mother. Linen ground embroidered with black, red, mauve and yellow wools in cross stitch. At top: upper and lower case alphabet and numerals 1 to 8. Remainder filled with inscription to maker's mother with date of death and memorial verse, followed by maker's initials and date. Inscription flanked by two crucifixes and two stylized trees worked in black. Inscribed: In Loving Memory of / My Dear Mother /Who Died Dec 4th 1905 aged / 58 / Not Gone From / Memory / Not Gone From /Love / But Gone to Our / Father's Home / Above. / Not dead but sleepeth. / Done by / MEP /1906.
