British War Medal
British War Medal instituted by King George V in 1919 to mark the end of the First World War. Silver medal (ribbon missing). Obverse bears effigy of King George and GEORGIVS V BRITT. OMN: REX ET IND: IMP:. Reverse depicts a male figure mounted on horseback, trampling the eagle shield of the Central Powers, a skull and cross-bones, above is the risen sun of victory
Sent to parents (William and Hannah Morris of Handel House, Newbridge) of Petty Officer Bernard Morris, killed in action on 23 April 1917, aged 22, while serving as a soldier in the Drake Battalion RND. He is commemorated on the Newbridge War Memorial.
