Smith, Sampson (Longton business founded c 1846. Smith died in 1878 but the firm continued in production under various names until 1963. Figure making continued until at least 1926 (see Gordon Pugh pp12-13))
Figure of Dwight Lynam Moody, slightly creamy white earthenware, slighly crackled glaze, standing on an oval base, inscribed in gilt raised capitals on a plaque set high up on the plinth. Figure, standing on grass, in contemporary dress of black shoes, white trousers, black coat, white waistcoat an orange pattern of crosses and trails of dots, brown hair and beard, gilt detailing very worn. Right hand on hip, left hand resting on a closed red brown book on a grey pillar, figure standing against green and brown brick wall.
