S.S. SAMBRE, glass negative

S.S. SAMBRE (7176gt). Built 1943 by Permanente Metals Corporation (Shipbuilding Division), No.2 Yard, Richmond, California, and launched as GEORGE INNES, but renamed SAMBRE for "lease-lend" to Britain's Ministry of War Transport, (managed by Cunard White Star Ltd., Liverpool). In 1947 she was returned to the USA and on resuming her original name, GEORGE INNES, became part of the US Marine Commission's reserve fleet laid up in James River, Virginia. She was scrapped at Baltimore in 1959.
