Rescuer needs rescue. Cornell University student Neil Cronin, of Stoughton, Mass (left) hangs precariously from a narrow ledge about 60 feet above Ithaca's Fall Creek

Wirephoto published in the Tribune newspaper in 1978. Purchased by David Hurn from MMG Photo Archives.

Full title: RESCUER NEEDS RESCUE - Cornell University student Neil Cronin, of Stoughton, Mass (left) hangs precariously from a narrow ledge about 60 feet above Ithaca's Fall Creek Monday morning. Ithaca Patrolman Steve Freund was lowered down to the 100 foot gorge by rope to rescue Cronin (center) but found himself in a worse predicament when the ledge crumbled, while Cronin was pulled to safety. Freund dangled from a tree stump (right) for almost 10 minutes until the rescue rope could be lowered again. Both men escaped injury.
