Casglu
Lowri Davies’s Welsh heritage is her major source of inspiration. Ceramics are important to her sense of identity, not only historic Welsh pottery and porcelain in museum collections but also the crockery and associated stories passed down by women in her family. These wedding presents, souvenirs of day trips and thank-you gifts from her great-grandmother inspired Casglu. This collection of lithophanes features domestic objects that Davies grew up around: teapots, figurines, the dresser she inherited, a fireplace in a cosy traditional kitchen. Lithophanes are thin porcelain plaques modelled in relief so that images appear when light shines through them. They were popular in the 19th century, made mostly in French, German and English factories but also at the South Wales Pottery, Llanelli.
