Roman stone inscription (Paetinus)
Below the inscription is a legionary eagle between confronting Capricorns, the badge of the Second Legion.
C(o)ho(rtis) V c(enturia) / Paetini
‘The century of Paetinus, from the fifth cohort (built this)’
At the base are an eagle (the aquila of the legion) and two Capricorns (the badge of the Second Augustan Legion).
