Roman ceramic brick with graffito
VIISVV[...] first V ligatured to II, so different in form to VV DIIV[...] BRV [...] ‘I’ suggests more names, but there seems a rightward curve & second stroke AP[...] Handwriting is more accomplished than the other and would suit an early 2nd century date. The first name (if read correctly) suggests the very rare Etruscan-derived name Vesuvius (cf. the centurion in RIB 1858 and 2084). The second and third names would be Celtic-derived, the fourth one Roman.
