Bandage
Small un-dyed cotton pouch containing two dressings with waterproof covers and a safety pin. The dressings have not been opened. Belonged to Muriel Lennox, a VAD nurse and a member of the St John Ambulance Association Barry Nursing Division. The pouch is rectangular in shape, made from a single length of fabric, folded in half and sewn up by machine along the longer sides, left open and with raw edges at right side. There are two cotton tape ties on either side of the opening (attached in line with the side seams). There is a stamped inscription (in black) describing the contents and giving directions for opening and using the bandages. The dressings are covered in plain woven cotton with a waterproofed coating on the inside. The top and sides are slightly wider than the dressing inside and are adhered together sealing the dressing firmly to keep it sterile. There is a paper label, printed in red and black, adhered to the top of each dressing with directions for opening and use. A safety pin wrapped in waxed paper is tacked to one of the dressings with black cotton thread, the safety pin has become detached from the other dressing. Each individual dressing measures: W 8 x H 5.8 x D 2.2cm.
