Seal impression: Personal seal

Obverse. The 10th Earl of Northumberland riding to dexter, in plate armour with a crest or plume of feathers on his helmet, its visor raised; his sword is sheathed. An oval shield is slung against his left arm: quarterly, 1. and 4, A lion rampant, PERCY (Modern), 2. and 3. Three lucies or pikes haurient, two and one, LUCY (arms deriving from the marriage of a Lucy into the Percy family in 1369). To the rear of the horse, a crescent (the badge of Percy), encircled with a Garter bearing its motto. Not readily seen on this impression: the lower background of herbage and flowers; the sea upon which several war-vessels (in allusion to Percy’s position as Lord High Admiral, in which office he used a different seal); the mountainous country to his right and, above the horse’s head, a radiant sun appearing through the clouds. No legend.
