Early Iron Age bronze socketed axe
Large heavy axe fragment with blade end removed. The axe has diverging sides and a bi-conical collar, whose lower mouth moulding is at the point of insertion of the upper loop arm. The mouth plan is almost square with rounded corners and rounded face-edges. There are no ribs or pellets. There are casting flashes and excess metal around the mouth, which remain untrimmed.
