Bag
Red patterned scrub bag. Given by volunteers to Tŷ Doctor surgery, Nefyn, during the initial stages of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Scrub bag hand made by repurposing an old pillow case. Made from printed cotton/synthetic fabric blend. Pattern printed in grey and different shades of red. Pattern consists of horizonal stripes of different width: each with a different pattern. The open end of the pillow case has been folded over to the front in order to create a channel through which two strips of purple synthetic jersey fabric have been inserted for use of a draw-string. A gap has been created at either side to access the string for pulling. The ends of the string are knotted with a knot at either side of the bag's opening. A flap of material remains on the inside of the bag, which stems from the original construction of the pillow slip. On the opposite side, along the edge of the opening, the selvage of the fabric can be seen. Stitches original to the pillow case's construction are machine stitched using pale red thread, whereas machine stitches used to make the pillow case into a bag use white thread. The pillow case's original side seams are finished with overlocker stitches using white thread. Original printed care label remains attached to inner side seam. Length of white cotton string is knotted around the draw string on one side.
