M.V. JEAN, negative
Discharging cargo from M.V. Jean at the MBM timber terminal, Newport Docks. The cargo consisted of 22,000 tons of packaged lumber and plywood from British Columbia, Canada. It was the first cargo to be handled at the MBM timber terminal and believed to have been the largest single timber cargo ever discharged at the UK up to that time.
During the weeks prior to the arrival of M.V. JEAN, the drivers of the radio-equipped fork lift trucks underwent intensive training in their use in order to provide smooth 'remote controlled' unloading and stacking.
M.V. JEAN (15,100 gt) was built in 1966 by Osaka Zosencho, Japan, and owned by Cardenosa Compania Naviera, SA.
