Roman copper alloy strap union
Triangular strap union for three straps. The central portion consists of a triangular frame with ornamented angles and an openwork filling, which leaves a space on each side for receiving the terminal ring of a strap, two of which, both imperfect, remain. The attachment plate of the more perfect has two rivet holes.
Part of a hoard, dating to the period 50-75 CE. It was buried at a time when the Silures, the native tribe of south-east Wales, were fighting a guerilla war against the Romans. The hoard consists of a mixture of both native and Roman military objects.
