Roman copper alloy Colchester A brooch
It is in poor condition with part of one side wing, the corresponding area of the spring and the lower part of the bow and catchplate lost. It has a gently curved bow, originally of faceted D shaped cross section with a less sharp kick at the head than is standard. The top of the catchplate is visible to the rear of the bow and suggests that the brooch was originally in the middle of the size range of the type.
