Pot-lid
Pot-lid, earthenware, circular shape with cylindrical flange and convex top; the upperside of the lid decorated with an underglaze polychrome transfer-print of 'Shakespeare's Birthplace (Exterior)' (although this exact title is not recorded on the lid), showing a street scene with a crowd of figures in the foreground and a row of medieval-style buildings in the background, one of which has an inn sign printed with the inscription "SWAN INN", the print enclosed by a leaf and scroll border, the inscription "SHAKSPEARE'S HOUSE HENLEY ST / STRATFORD ON AVON" is printed to the bottom of the print on leaves forming part of this border. The glaze crazed, a major crack and several minor chips to the flange.
