Roman copper alloy end looped pestle
Large finely made example with neatly cast suspension loop, possibly intended as a duck-head with carefully facetted, bill-like extension. Parallel lines flank a low ridge on the back of the loop and terminate in a slightly worn cross-moulding on the upper edge of the rod. Wear can also be discerned in the slightly elongated eye. The upper stem is of sub-rectangular then circular section, while the normal wear-facet on the convex edge of the upturned tip gives it a D-section.
