Bathing costume
Man’s woollen bathing costume. Worn by D.R.V Roper of St Fagans when a member of the Royal Navy, 1940.
Regulation style made from navy blue cotton jersey with a deep v-shaped neckline front and back (lower at the back). Fastened with a black plastic button on the left shoulder. Made in three main pieces front and back joined at the sides and a gusset between the legs. Machine sewn using navy cotton thread. Hemming on the inside of the leg openings is machine sewn and overlocked. Side seams are also overlocked. The edges around the neck, back and straps are turned back and machine stitched.
