Seal impression: Royal
Obverse. The Queen seated on a carved throne with arched canopy, wearing a small crown, a prominent ruff, the Order of the Garter, a pointed bodice with a wide skirt in fluted folds; in her left hand she holds an orb surmounted by a cross pommée, in her right hand a sceptre; two vested arms issuing from the clouds reach out to hold back her cloak; at the very base, below the footboard (ornamented with ? fleurs-de-lis) a diminutive figure (? a dog in a kennel). In field, to either side, a shield: FRANCE (Modern) and ENGLAND, quarterly, encircled with the Garter inscribed with its motto, HONI SOIT QVI MAL Y PENSE, and ensigned with a royal crown. Above the wrists of the arms supporting the cloak, a double cinquefoil rose en soleil for LANCASTER and YORK. Over each of the queen’s shoulders, a small fleur-de-lis.
