Stepaside Ironworks, photograph
Photograph captioned 'Stepaside Ironworks, Pembrokeshire. This provides a good view of the end wall of the cast house which abutted on to the front of the furnace. The floor of the cast house sloped away slightly from the front of the furnace to enable the molten iron to run into the specially prepared sand channels in the floor of the cast house. The arched entrances to the cast house were typical features of these buildings and the circular apertures above them illustrate the need for ventilating a building in which many tons of molten iron were flowing at the same time.' Mounted on card. Made for the exhibition RECORDING WALES 3 in 1970/1971.
